Boxing, kickboxing and Muay Thai

Striking

Boxing, kickboxing and Muay Thai — stance, footwork, hands, kicks, knees and elbows, worked on pads and bags with a partner. People come for the conditioning. They stay because hitting pads properly is genuinely good fun.

Who it is for

Is this you?

  • Anyone who wants the fitness without the treadmill
  • Jiu-jitsu players who want to be dangerous standing up
  • Complete beginners — technique first, contact later and only when you are ready
  • Anyone who has always fancied learning to box properly
  • Women who want to spar in a room set up for it

What to bring

  • Gloves, shin pads and a mouthpiece once you commit
  • Shorts and a t-shirt
  • A water bottle
  • Hand wraps if you have them — ask at the desk if you do not

What a session looks like

An hour on the mat

01

Skipping and shadow work

Get warm, get loose, and start moving the way you are about to be asked to move.

02

Technique

One combination or defense, broken down slowly, then built up to speed.

03

Pads and bags

Rounds on the pads with a partner, so you feel what a clean shot actually feels like.

04

Conditioning

Short, sharp finisher. Everyone leaves having worked.

Questions
Will I be made to spar on day one?
No. You will learn to move and hit pads first. Sparring is optional, controlled, and only once you and the coach agree you are ready.
Do I need my own gloves?
Not for the first class. After that you will want your own gloves, shin pads and a mouthpiece — we sell gear at the desk.
Can I do striking and jiu-jitsu?
Most people do. They run on the same evenings, so you can train both in one trip.
I am not fit. Is that a problem?
No. Work at your own pace. Nobody is watching, and everyone in the room started somewhere.

A room where womenactually spar

We run sparring sessions for women, coached the same way as everything else here — technique first, contact when you are ready, and never thrown in at the deep end. Plenty of the women who train started with no experience at all and had never hit a pad in their lives.
