The MMA and striking class together at BTT Merritt Island
Where the grappling and the striking meet

MMA

MMA is where the grappling and the striking meet: takedowns off strikes, getting back up when you have been put down, and fighting with your back to the cage. You do not have to compete to train it — most of the room never will.

Who it is for

Is this you?

  • Grapplers who want to add strikes
  • Strikers who want to stop being taken down
  • Anyone who wants the most complete version of the training
  • Competitors preparing for amateur bouts

What to bring

  • Shorts without pockets or zips
  • Rash guard
  • Mouthpiece
  • Gloves and shin pads once you are training regularly

What a session looks like

An hour on the mat

01

Warm up

Movement, level changes and shadow work that gets both halves of the game switched on.

02

The link

One specific transition — a strike into a takedown, a wall escape, a scramble to the feet — drilled until it is automatic.

03

Situational rounds

Start in the bad spot on purpose and work your way out under pressure.

04

Free rounds

Controlled, with the intensity set by the two people in the round.

Questions
Do I have to fight?
No. The overwhelming majority of the room trains MMA purely for the skill and the fitness and never sets foot in a cage.
Is it harder than the other classes?
It asks more of your coordination, not your courage. Beginners are taken care of in exactly the same way.
What should I train first?
Start with jiu-jitsu or striking, get comfortable, then add MMA. If you are not sure, call and ask — we will give you a straight answer.
Can I train MMA and compete in jiu-jitsu?
Plenty do. Tell your coach what you are working toward and the training gets pointed at it.
